News 2008
________________________________________________
Colby, owned by Karen Bristing, just keeps improving.
In the Open Preliminary division, Colby put in a solid
dressage test, starting off in 9th. He jumped double
clean in show jumping moving him up to 6th. After
incurring 7.2 time faults on cross county, he finished
off the competition in 2nd place. He handled the wet
footing on cross country like a pro.

Rainier, owned by Judi Stewart, started off the season at
training level. He was in 2nd after dressage with a 29.5. He
had a beautiful show jumping round, moving him into 1st. After
a great cross country go, he maintained his placing finishing
on his dressage score. He will be moving back up to
preliminary at Twin Rivers.
Wild Child’s McLaren started off the season at
novice, and was a star. He was 4th after dressage
with a 29.0. Unfortunately a rail added to his score
dropping him to 7th. But after a double clean go on
cross county, he moved back up to 4th. Melanie will
be showing him at Twin Rivers and Three Day
Ranch, and we wish her good luck and great success.
Penny Fink competed her horse Madison novice. They
finished in 3rd place.
Galway Downs Horse Trials (Feb. 2008)
The 2008 show season started out at Galway Downs.
With the winter break passing quickly, it is hard to believe
that there was a break at all. Unfortunately winter decided
to rear its ugly head on Sunday, bringing quite a bit of
rain and cooler temperatures. However, the footing held
beautifully. The Preliminary and Training tracks were a
little slick in places, but ridable, and Novice was perfect.
Twin Rivers was our second outing of the year, and enjoyed by all who went.
The weather was a bit windy, which kept the days interesting to say the least.

Melanie Hoyson enjoyed her first show on her new horse
Wild Child’s
McLaren
.  She was in 2nd after dressage with a 32.1, and then jumped double
clear in both cross-country and show jumping, maintaining her placing.
Penny Fink competed in the Senior Novice division aboard
Madison.  They
were in 9th after dressage.  They had a rail in show jumping, dropping them to
10th.  But after a successful cross-country round, they moved into 7th.
Karen Bristing’s
Colby competed in the Preliminary division.  Colby was in 10th
after dressage with a 37.0.  But a stop at the coffin dropped him out of the
placings.

Debbie Rosen was kind enough to loan her horse
Smurf to me to compete in
the training division.  He was 4th after dressage, but a stop and time in show
jumping dropped him out of the ribbons.  He was fantastic on cross-country.
Thank you Debbie for letting me play on your wonderful boy!
Twin Rivers Horse Trials (Feb. 2008)

Margie Malloy put on another wonderful event at her
3-Day Ranch.  This was her third event, and it just keeps
getting better.  Definitely a show to put on the schedule.
Lizz Antonoff’s Lucky Boy made quite an impression,
especially while galloping freely in the barns.  He was
in 7th  in Open Training after dressage with a 33.5.
He was perfect on cross-country moving him into 3rd,
and then after a double clean go in show jumping, he
moved into 1st.  We hope to continue Lucky’s
education at Galway.
Melanie Hoyson’s Wild Child’s McLaren completed his
first Training.  He was 9th after dressage with a 35.5.  He
was very brave on cross-country, however he incurred 7.2
time faults dropping him out of the ribbons.  He put in a
double clear in show jumping, moving him into 10th.   We
look forward to Melanie and McLaren competing together
again at Twin Rivers.
Judi Stewart rode her own Rainier to a 5th place
finish in the Open Training B division.  They were 7th
after dressage with a 35.5.  After jumping double clear
in both cross-country and show jumping, they moved
into 5th.
Maryann Simmons competed Gillian van Muyden’s
Virtuoso in the Senior Novice division.  This was Virtuoso’s
second horse trials.  He was in 8th after dressage with a
38.0.  With some time faults on cross-country, they
dropped out of the ribbons.  They did have a lovely show
jumping round.  We hope to see them out again soon.

3Day Ranch  Horse Trials (Mar. 2008)
Shepherd Ranch Horse Trials (Aug. 2008)
Karen Bristing’s Colby made his return to the show circuit with a bang.  He got a
27.4 in dressage, and was not going to let it slip away.  Judi Stewart’s
Rainier
put the pressure on Colby by getting a 28.4 in dressage, placing them 1st and
2nd.  Both horses continued to perform beautifully the rest of the weekend.
They both finished on their dressage scores, keeping their placing.  Colby will
be moving back to Preliminary at Copper Meadows, with his sights set on the
One Star at Twin Rivers.
Gillian Van Muyden’s
Virtuoso has continued to grow up.  He placed 7th in the
Open Novice division.  He will hopefully be moving up to training at Galway at
the end of the year.
Penny Fink was 6th in the Senior Novice division riding
Madison.
Shepherd Ranch Horse Trials (June 2008)
Fiona Dodson had a good weekend on her horse Happy Go Lucky. They
placed 4th in the Open Training division.
Sheryl North was back out there riding
Spirit Keeper to a 10th place finish in
Beginner Novice division B.  The most exciting part of their weekend was when
the judge’s tent took flight during their show jumping round.  They both
maintained their composure and finished without a hitch.
Copper Meadows Horse Trials (June 2008)
Judi Stewart’s Rainier was once again a pleasure to ride.  He put in a lovely
dressage test, scoring a 32.  He continued to be foot perfect the rest of the
weekend, earning a 3rd place finish in the Open Training division.
Penny Fink rode her horse
Madison.  They got a 37.5 in dressage and finished
the weekend on their dressage score, placing them 7th.
Galway Downs Horse Trials (May 2008)
Galway was our first show back after a short break.
Sheryl North and her own
Spirit Keeper took the BNR division by storm,
placing second.  They had a 37.4 after dressage, and finished on that score.
This pair has come so far and they have both grown so much together.
Congratulations!
Maryann Simmons rode Gillian Van Muyden’s
Virtuoso this weekend.  They
had a 32.5 after dressage, and had a beautiful cross country go.  Unfortunately,
they had 6 time faults added to their score during show jumping round, dropping
them from 5th to 9th.  Maryann has brought this youngster along beautifully,
giving him a very confident experience once again.
